Poster for Group Reading event in Feb. 18th at Black Chasm Caverns

On February 18th of 2012 a first will be taking place at Black Chasm National Natural Landmark.

A group reading with a local psychic medium and animal communicator, Charles Peden (myself) is scheduled for 5-7 pm on this first Saturday after Valentines Day.

Never before has Black Chasm hosted such an event and this will be a first for not only myself, but for those in attendance as well.

The plan is to meet at the cave in Volcano, a “gold rush era ghost town” located in Amador county just about ninety minutes east of Sacramento, CA. After a brief introduction and quick tour of the caverns, we will assemble in the Landmark room and for the next hour and a half I will be bringing forth messages from animals (living and past) as well as the spirits of our human loved ones on the other side.

The first portion of channeling will be what I call an open channeling session where we will not ask for individuals to connect with us, rather I will look to bring forward those who would have not been asked about – this takes care of what I call “line jumpers.” The second half of the group channeling session will involve me calling upon each individual physically present and asking them who it is they wish to connect with and what their message or question is for them.

To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to connect with someone connected to them, I am limiting the seating to 20-25 individuals.

The February, 18th 2012 event is fully booked, the next one is scheduled for March, 24th 2012 with more details to be made available in the near future, including how to obtain tickets for the event.

Some back story regarding the location and the idea for holding such an event in such a location.

Soon after moving from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Gold Country in Amador county, we discovered that we lived about ten minutes from a stunning cave. I have nearly always had an interest in rocks and minerals and growing up I was a bit of a rock hound. In addition to collecting rocks and minerals I was fascinated by caves and considered them to be quite adventurous as well as somewhat romantic – in the sense of outlaws hiding their loot in them and so forth.

When I was around 6-10 years old I recall visiting Sea Lion Caves in Oregon a few times and was struck by their size and their beauty. The sea caves were cool, but they were cold and smelly as well as very loud as they are home to a large colony of sea lions. Later on around 11 or 12 I stumbled upon some small caves while exploring the forest around our home near the Oregon coast and while small and relatively unremarkable, I did find the blade of an old Bowie knife in a cave and that was a very cool thing for a young boy like myself to find.

I never did get to explore or visit a cave that had stalactites and stalagmites as well as crystal formations and underground lakes and rivers, so when we moved close to such a cave I knew that it would only be a short matter of time before we visited it.

Our first visit to the caves was nothing short of spectacular, the formations were incredible – it was even better then I dreamed it would be. As a kid when I pictured caves, none of them came close to what my family experienced in Black Chasm Caverns. Now when we have out of town visitors, it is one of our “go to” activities and it never ceases to disappoint.

On of my last trips there, I really enjoyed how quiet it is and how incredible it is to simply take in the energy of the caverns. My first visit I was so worried about getting the right photographs and was marveling at the sights so much that I was not able to simply sit in one place and just take it all in. In subsequent trips both my wife and I began to feel a real connection with the caves energy.

Heidi, (my wife) called the company that runs the cave tours and discovered that they would be okay with an after hours meditation group being brought into the cave. So I called the company back and told them exactly what I was planning on doing – to my pleasant surprise they were receptive and so a date was chosen and I began to notify my clients about the event. After the local media picked up the story, all of the space for this first group reading has been booked and I have already picked a date for a second group event in the cave.

As you can see in the photo above, there are incredible crystal formations within these caverns. The stalactites and stalagmites are stunning and “Zion” in “The Matrix” movie is modeled after some of the features found within this cave.

The Landmark room is where the group event will take place and is pictured below.

When the cave was first discovered by “white men” it was during the gold rush of the late 1840’s. At first miners damaged the very first cavern, having no idea of the size of the cave or of it’s true beauty they took some of the stalactites and stalagmites as well as some of the other formations for themselves. After looking for gold in the cave and finding none – in the small area that they had access to, the miners began charging others a pinch of gold dust to view the sights underground. This continues to this day, however now the fee is $14.50 per a person for a tour, though they may still accept gold dust, should you have any to offer to them.

While the native population of  Miwok’s were aware of the caves presence, did not use it for anything. Less then four miles from the caves is North America’s largest grinding rock. This location was utilized by the Miwok to grind their acorns into flour for food. As a hole in the rock became too deep to work effectively, they would scoot over a few inches and begin a new hole for grinding.

Now back to the cave … so the cave has crystals (several varieties) and it has multiple chambers. The cave also features underground lakes which are incredible. As you proceed through the cave to the Landmark room, you will pass over one of the lakes which is just visible when you look down into a chasm. The lake is the most incredible color of blue, due to the blue marble that is in the water.

Below are maps of the caves known features, you can see the Landmark room is at the end of the tour area, the rest of the cave is off limits to exploring.

You can click on either map above to view them larger. So, as you can see, we will be surrounded by crystals, in a cavern that is just above several lakes, talk about a conducive atmosphere for channeling messages from spirit. The crystals have an amplifying effect upon the energy in the room and the water does as well. The perfect silence, no traffic noises, or planes overhead will be very welcome.

After the group reading at the caves, those who wish to stay for a private reading or who just are not ready to call it an evening, will be invited back to my place in Pioneer, where with catering from Two Alan’s catering, we will enjoy some food and beverages.

Since the cave is a unique location that is very fragile, there are some basic ground rules and things to consider.

Do Not Touch any of the cave features or walls, the cave is still growing and the oils on our fingers can cause serious stunting of any further growth where we touched a feature. The cave has a walkway that is on the edge of the chasm, dropping anything into the chasm will result in immediate removal from the cave as well as requiring the staff to rappel down into it’s depths to retrieve whatever may have been dropped.

There are no restrooms in the cave, do not drink plenty of fluids before going in. Leaving the group will require an escort back to the surface in order to use the restrooms.

The cave is 57 degrees year around and so you will want to dress accordingly.

There are no chairs and chairs cannot be brought in, as such it is advised that you bring a small pillow to sit on for the event.

Cameras are suggested as you will want to document this experience and if lucky you too will get some great shots of some of the wonderful features in this cave.

Another group reading is scheduled for March 24th 2012 and tickets may be obtained from the web site; http://www.charlespeden.com.

Recently I had a most unusual experience during a reading. My client was asking about career choices and after discussing several business opportunities a question about their present employment was brought up. The question was along the lines of “How do you see my present employment, what can you pick up with regards to it?”After focusing on my client’s inquiry I suddenly felt as if I were a screw, when I thought of my body, it seemed to be metal with threads and a point at the bottom, as depicted in the photo of a screw seen above. I then felt a pressure on the top of my head and had the sensation of being screwed down and into the chair I was sitting on. The sensation and the novelty of this “visceral vision” was so intense I had to ask the obvious.

I asked my client if they had a sense that someone at work was trying to screw them over. He replied that was very possible, did I have a name? I heard the name “Jeff” and my client replied that there was no one by the name of Jeff that he worked with. As I could “see” what Jeff looked like, I figured it would help if I described what this “Jeff” looked like and perhaps then he would know who I was referring to.

I described this gentleman with short black hair, a bit on the slender side with pasty skin. Right away my client exclaimed that they knew them and had worked with them at the company he was at, however Jeff had quit six years ago as he had been diagnosed with cancer.

My client then revealed that he and Jeff had not liked each other and that it had gotten ugly at times with him. Upper management was aware of this and my client was still getting “screwed” by the company’s impression of him that had been partly forged by his difficulties with a fellow co-worker, Jeff. Regardless of who started the animosity between them, the fact was that it had tarnished my clients image and he was continuing to suffer as a result.

Jeff to the best of my knowledge is still alive, however he was bitter and lashed out at my client, both directly and from afar. Now my client knows why he felt so unhappy at work, or at least a part of it . After the reading, my client expressed great relief and a sense of weight being lifted as now he knows what was gnawing at him and now is able to move on, making his remaining time with the company more palatable.

Much of the work I do involves images and physical as well as emotions feelings being relayed to me. This is the first time I have felt like I was an “inanimate” object and not only that, but the sensation that came along with it – the sense of being screwed really put this channeling “over the top” in my book. Not only did I get a sense of being screwed, I also “nailed” (pardon the pun) the description and name of the disgruntled former co-worker. It’s details like that being brought forward that add more “weight” to the other information that comes forward, yet that is harder to get a conformation or verification on. When seeking answers, we are looking for the unknown, in order to give more credence to the unknown it is helpful to have it anchored in confirmed details.

Long Island Medium Theresa

Long Island Medium Theresa

The other night I was watching TV and was “aimlessly” flipping channels looking for something decent to watch. Frankly I as a psychic medium and animal communicator find that many of the shows about the “paranormal” are all about the “fear” factor and or are hopelessly lost and are a pain to watch. “Psychic Kids” on A&E has it’s moments but it too seems to focus on the darker aspects of the other side, ghosts and so forth.

With regard to my work, I spend a lot of time chatting with animals telepathically for their human companions (owners). Most of what I deal with is fairly entertaining and a lot of fun. On occasion I will become involved in a readings that are much heavier in nature, such as today when I channeled a girl who had been murdered by her mother. I take my work very seriously and greatly enjoy being able to bring peace and closure to those whom I read for, so seeing TLC’s new show “Long Island Medium” on the air was a “breath of fresh air.”

I caught the last three quarters of the show and while at first I had my BS meter on high alert, I was very pleasantly surprised to see and feel that Theresa is indeed the genuine article, a real medium and a terrific psychic.

One of the things I dislike about the “psychic industry” is this perception that a psychic is either a gypsy like character or all “new age’y woo woo” complete with general feel good platitudes and readings that either must be done with “props” or that involve really far out and esoteric concepts and material which frankly makes to real sense and seems to apply to just about anyone, if it applies at all.

Myself, I am a regular guy, I do not try to be someone who is perfect, I do not consider myself superior to others. I just happen to be an individual who talks to animals and the dead telepathically, other then that I am perfectly normal. I enjoy spending time with my wife and family, playing with our dog and our other animals, cooking, tending to the gardens and the orchard, kayaking, beach combing, movies, good TV shows, video games and drawing.

In short I don’t fit the classic view of a psychic and neither does Theresa which I find very refreshing. She has a big personality, a caring spirit and an “off the cuff” delivery and approach. No sugar coated feel good-isms, rather a sometimes blunt, to the point and confident approach. She deals directly with the spirits of those both earthbound, (ghosts) and those on the “other side” and has the ability to “see” them.

Long Island Medium is the only show on at present that I feel does a halfway decent job of portraying what it is that I do. The “ghost busting” shows and the other shows out there instead spend inordinate amounts of time studying grainy video and film clips, poking around in the dark, playing with their “gear” and mixing it up with each other all in an attempt to entertain us and to ultimately prove that their is another dimension out there and that ghosts are real.

Well some of us due to personal experiences or due to our open minds already believe that such contact is possible and that we are way past trying to prove it exists. It is time to stop trying to prove that the supernatural exists, rather it is time to communicate and work directly with those in spirit, with individuals such as Theresa and others blazing a trail for the rest of us to follow.

At one point during the premier episode, a person who was at a group reading at a loved one come through whom had died a violent tragic death. When the spirit of that individual came through to Theresa, they were holding a pair of doves in their hands. Theresa then explained that she had different “symbols” that she utilized to aid communicating specific things.

After hearing Theresa explain how the pair of doves thing worked, I thought to myself that I would like to use the same technique with regard to the spirits that I communicate with. The very next day I had a woman come through who had been murdered. When she appeared to me, she was holding a pair of doves, with no prior information being providing to me regarding her passing and no obvious reason to suspect murder … I saw the symbol and remarked to my client that I was seeing the symbol for a tragic and violent passing, she immediately confirm that the individual who she was looking to connect with was stabbed to death. I was spared from experiencing such a horrific passing and the spirit was able to avoid having to relive the ugly details of their passing.

Long Island Medium was picked up for 8 1/2 hour episodes. Lets hope that it becomes a hit and gets picked up for several seasons. It is the real thing and is at present the only show on TV that I can point out to someone and say, “This is similar to what I do.” and feel good about it. I give it 4.75 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it, while not required viewing, highly advised.

After reading some of the comments my posting has generated I have decided to respond to the critics of the show, specifically those who believe it is fake and a set up.

As a psychic medium myself I can attest to the way that she delivers her information as being genuine. While watching the show I too feel the connections with the spirits that she connects with, just last night while watching two episodes I repeatedly broke out in goosebumps when she was connecting with spirits.

To the skeptics who think that all of the people featured on the show are “paid” to go along with some grand scheme to produce a fake show, I can assure you that they are not actors nor coached in anyway. Tell me how she knew about the gentleman at the auto mechanics and how his father was deceased and his mother was still living along with other details. How about the two tough guys who came to get closure regarding their friend who had died? You think she faked that too?? Do you think these people would really go on national TV and risk their reputations just for a quick sound bite, I do not think so. Let me tell you, it is all genuine – this is a very similar portrayal of what my life is like.

Now, I will cut the skeptics some slack … as prior to having my own experiences and discovering my own abilities as a psychic medium and animal communicator – I too was a complete skeptic. However if you have an open mind and watch the show you will see that what she does changes lives for the better and that she brings peace and closure to those whom she reads for, just as I do.

I love the way that she reads people “off the cuff” while out in public, running errands and so forth. I too have those experiences. Once while walking through a farmers market I came over to the gentleman who was advertising that he could help you stop smoking through hypnosis. Being the consummate skeptic that I am, I had to see how he did it and if he could do other things. While chatting with him I felt my liver being removed and or operated on. I asked him if he knew a female who had passed with liver issues. He then told me that he was the recipient of an organ donor who was female – he had her liver. She was coming through in spirit to thank him for honoring the pact he had made with his doctor to change his lifestyle and to take good care of his new liver. She appreciated how he was caring for her liver – afterwards the gentleman was a bit in shock and had to take some time away from his booth to compose himself. I have been in checkout lines at the grocery store and while my purchases are being rung up have commented on the fact that the checkers deceased boyfriend is standing beside her with a message for her. These are not things you just make up! I find that if I do not bring forward their messages, that the spirits will pester me until I do so. I have an obligation to honor both those here in person as well as those in spirit, I live my life with one foot in this world and the other on the other side – as does Theresa. Every medium has their own style, and yes there are many frauds out there, but she is not one of them, she is the real deal.

While I don’t really enjoy working lost animal cases, (working one means that someone is missing a loved one) I do find great joy in assisting in the successful recovery of a missing animal.

Working missing animal cases can be very draining, after all every client is dealing with the nightmare of a loved one being gone and are desperate for answers and closure.

Unfortunately not all cases end up with a happy reunion, however many do, they are the ones that keep me going in this tough line of work, and I would like to share one such recent story with you, here is my clients testimonial, my comments are below.

I contacted Charles on Sunday, September 18, 2011, after our cat Silky had been missing more than 35 days.  We weren’t sure if she was still alive, and had all but given up hope of seeing her again.  Charles’ first impressions were that our cat was still alive, and he saw box-type trucks nearby.
I asked Charles if he could connect with my other beloved cat, Pollyanna, whom had died on August 13, 2011 and ask her about Silky.  Charles instantly picked up Pollyanna’s energy.  Pollyanna informed him that Silky was alive and seemed to be moving to and fro in a confined area.  I told Charles that a canal runs behind my house and it continues right behind a U-Haul truck business.  Charles felt Silky was near that business.  Indeed she was!  Trapped in the canal, unable to escape over the 20 foot tall cement walls on both sides.  We placed a trap in the canal, and after 38 days and a strong will to live, we got our Silky back.  Thanks to Charles’ God-given abilities to connect to all animals living or passed on, we now have our Silky back home.
Our family highly recommends Charles for any needs you may have regarding animals.  He is a kind and compassionate gentleman.
Mr. and Mrs Peck, Concord, Ca
This particular case was difficult to some extent for me as I was concerned about giving false hope where there was none, however no matter how I asked the question regarding the cat still being alive I always got the same reply, a big “Yes!”
Trusting my instincts, the information coming in and the fact that I have brought many other animals home safely I “stuck to my guns” and was successful in relay accurate information as to the animals whereabouts and condition.

When one is dealing with a missing animal it is important that we do not assume what has happened until proof has been brought forward. In cases where the animal has passed, frequently the animal’s body is no longer available to be recovered – as in eaten by coyotes or other animals. In some cases the animal’s body is unrecoverable without valiant efforts such as recovering a body that has been swept out to sea or that has gotten lost in the wilderness with very little in the way of landmarks and roads to guide a recovery.

Another type of case where a physical body recovery is not possible is where the animal chooses to shield us from the difficulty of their passing. If a passing was tragic, such as being hit by a vehicle, your animal may not wish to allow you to view their body in such a state. By preventing you from seeing this, they are protecting you, and themselves from having to be further reminded of the incident that was responsible for their passing.

If I am unable to reunite you with your animal, or if I am unable to lead you to their remains, I can still provide closure.

Recently I was chatting with a dog who had passed some time ago. The person never really had closure, the animal “disappeared” while he was still living at home with his parents. His folks had put his dog down and did not have the decency to tell him the truth of what had taken place. When the dog came through there was a wealth of personal details regarding favorite memories, past injuries, specific life events and even the location where he had lived with this dog was brought forward. While not a “missing” animal case this was still closure being brought forward, many years after the events had transpired.

The first 48 hours after an animal goes missing are critical. Many times people resort to an animal communicator (pet psychic) as a last resort, while I believe that it is one of the first people you should call, knowing the right area to search makes all the difference.  Being able to communicate with a scared animal companion may mean the difference between life or death for them. Had I not made contact with the cat in the testimonial above, and had a large volume of water ran through the canal, I can assure you that cat would not be at home right now, instead they would most likely have drowned and never been recovered.

Granted some animals do not wish to come home, when they took off it was not because they were scared, but rather unhappy with home life and seeking to find a new family or try and make it on their own. Some missing animals join packs or feral colonies and sometimes animals just are finding their wild side. There was a book written along those lines by Jack London, “The Call of The Wild.” When an animal chooses to leave, or while out on their own, decides to try and make it by themselves, there is not much I can do.

If you are a concerned individual, but not the primary party tied to a high profile case, please understand the following; I only work missing animal and missing persons investigations when working directly with the immediate family involved or the lead law enforcement agency involved. You may alert the parties involved as to my services, you may pay for my services, however I will not work any case that I am not in direct contact with the principal parties involved.

I do not provide my services unsolicited, nor do I have a “take” or an “opinion” with regards to any public, high profile cases … yes, I do get called in to work some of them, however not everyone is comfortable with publicly acknowledging the use of a person with my abilities and there is a certain level of discretion and that is expected when involved in such work.

August 8, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A dog named Milo that disappeared while his owner rushed to help a woman is back by her side, thanks to a dog communicator.

Screen Capture ABC News 7 Chicago

August 8, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) — A dog named Milo that disappeared while his owner rushed to help a woman is back by her side, thanks to a dog communicator.

Kristin Yoshida and Milo were out for a walk when a woman tried to jump from the CTA stop at Kinzie and Wells. Yoshida pulled the woman to safety, but dropped Milo’s leash. She said she called a “dog communicator” who suggested Milo might be in a parking garage. Yoshida’s father found the dog in the parking garage of Yoshida’s building.

“We were on the phone for less than an hour and he led me right to my dog. And he kept saying something about the number five. I always park down here and today my car is on the fifth floor because there was no parking when I came home,” Yoshida said.

Milo was thirsty and hungry when she found him, but seems to be fine.

Unfortunately the story above lacks several details, as I am the “dog communicator” Animal Communicator, (Pet Psychic) who led Kristin to Milo, let me share my side of the story.

August 8th, 2011 was already a busy day with a house call earlier in the day to look into a possible ghost issue at a nearby residence. After identifying the ghost and encouraging him to move on, I returned home just in time to spend some quality time with my family.

While sitting down and enjoying a family movie, my phone rang and I knew that it was an emergency. As I left the living room I told my family that I had to take the call and went downstairs to my office.

A woman had been walking her dog 48 hours ago and had prevented someone from committing suicide, and while doing so dropped her dogs leash, the dog then ran off. Only knowing that this had taken place around the Chicago area and that the dog’s name was Milo, I proceeded to telepathically connect with Milo and assisted in leading Kristin to him.

Prior to describing Milo to Kristin, I saw a small Yorkie like dog, (as it turns out – that dog was missing too and also was in the Chicago area.)

When I connected with Milo he told me that he was a medium to large dog, with a lot of black on his face. He told me that he was a working breed.

Kristin confirmed the details and then I asked if the bridge was over a narrow yet deep body of water, she said no … I then saw the water turn green and knew that I was dealing with an incident that took place in the downtown part of Chicago. I pulled up a map and while doing so I told Kristin that the bridge was not over water, and that she had been just north of downtown Chicago, which she then confirmed.

While looking at the map (via Google) of the city, I saw an intersection that caught my attention. I asked her about the area near the intersection of Kinzie and Wells. Kristin was surprised that I asked her about that location and then confirmed that was where she had lost Milo.

I then “saw” a number five and asked if Milo was five and Kristin said “No.” I then told her that number was important and to set it to the side until I made more sense of it.

I then “saw” the river again and saw a big bend in it. Then I “saw” a parking garage.

I felt as though Milo was trapped, unharmed, thirsty, hungry and dry.

Again I “saw” a parking garage, Kristin told me that she thought he had gone into one and began asking questions about it.

As it turned out, I ended up describing two parking garages, one with a single level (the one she thought he was in) and I “saw” another garage that Kristin recognized as being hers at home. The garage at her home was multi-level. I “saw” Milo on the fifth floor. He was under a white vehicle that was a cross between an SUV and a sedan, the vehicle had a green logo or lettering on it.

I also “saw” the public art sculpture that Milo frequently uses as his place to take care of “business.”

At one point I told Kristin to stop wasting time and go out and bring Milo home as he was thirsty and trapped by his leash under the vehicle.

Kristin asked me if Milo would come to her father or if she would be the one to find him, I told her that her father would connect with him.

After the call I had an errand to run and headed down the mountain and into town. On the way down the hill my cell phone rang, it was Kristin, they had just found Milo.

Milo was found on the 5th floor of Kristin’s parking garage. The images I was shown of the one story garage have to do with him going there first. He then showed me several locations he is familiar with while walking around downtown Chicago. The last pieces of information he showed me had to do with him being in his person’s parking garage. Milo was located under a white minivan that was an Enterprise rental vehicle, it had the word Enterprise in green on the vehicle.

Later that evening all of the major Chicago based television stations ran a story about how Milo was found with the aid of a “dog communicator” or animal communicator as I like to be referred to.

Not all tales have a happy ending, lost animal cases, next to missing person cases, are some of the most difficult types of readings to do. Sometimes great joy can be found in a tearful reunion, other times tragic events have unfolded and the animal may have been killed or as in one recent case, they simply do not wish to return home for one reason or another.

Among the world of animal communicators, there are only a handful that work missing animal cases, and even fewer who work without a photo and or description of the animal who has gone missing. I only require the animal’s name in order to establish a connection. Once I have brought forward details that confirm a connection, such as age, breed, physical appearance, events that led up to the animal going missing etc., then I can work with the animal to find out where they are and if it is possible for them to come home on their own, or if I should direct the pet owner to recover them themselves.

Very Exciting News!

Many of you have been asking about a book … one that I have not yet written, the good news is that I am now writing it.
The book will be about my journey from skeptic to full time psychic medium and animal communicator. I will share the story of how I have come to be where I am today and will include several good stories from past readings as well as pointers on how you too can do what I do. For those of you who cannot wait for my book to come out, I suggest reading my blog which can be accessed via my web site, just look for the link near the top of the page.

-Unanswered Prayers or Dashed Dreams-

Frequently in life we find ourselves in a situation where we feel that our prayers are not being answered. When something does not go the way we wanted or expected we can find ourselves wondering “What did I do wrong?”

On occasion when we are met by such an obstacle we feel helpless or as though our spirit guides are asleep at the wheel.

Consider this, we do not always appreciate the bigger picture.

Take a look at the example below:

Stella dreams of a life on the big screen. She has gone to all the right schools, studied under the right instructors and has been told that she has what it takes to be a star.

One day Stella hears of an audition for a television series where she fits the requirements for one of the leads that they are casting, and excited about the opportunity to finally make it big, she auditions. (While it’s not a movie, she figures it will give her exposure and lead to something on the big screen in the future.)

The audition goes very well and she feels that she has got the part.

A week later she receives a phone call from the casting director, they inform her that while it was close, she did not get the role.

Devastated she begs and pleads with her spirit guides and loved ones to move heaven and earth for her so that she may get the part on the TV series.

Her guides heed her call to action and miraculously she is called back three days later with the news that she has landed the role, the actress that they had cast had just signed on to another project, something about her taking the lead in a new movie that was being filmed.

Now let’s roll the clock back to the day that Stella got the phone call that she had been passed over for the role in the TV series.

Instead of being sad and disappointed about not getting the role that she wanted, she looked at it as a sign that there was something better out there for her, after all she wanted to star in a movie and not be on the small screen, (not that there is anything wrong with television, mind you … it just was not her dream.)

A day later her agent calls regarding an audition for a movie, the first in a trilogy of movies and it is a major production with a huge budget and big names … they just need a new face for the lead female role.

At the auditions she gets a very good vibe from the casting directors and ends up getting a call back the next day.

After the movies release, she is reading the news and while the movie she just was involved with is being considered for best picture at the Oscars, the TV show that she had auditioned for is being canceled after three episodes.

She was finally realizing her dream.

Sometimes we get too caught up in the day to day struggles of life and find ourselves willing to compromise our dreams. We believe that being told “no” or not succeeding to achive some of our small goals is an indication of overall failure … to live our dreams.

When we compromise or are willing to let defeat control us, we will find ourselves playing second fiddle to our dreams.

When we allow our stumbling blocks to become our building blocks, we can realize our true potential and live out our dreams.

Much of life is about perspective … the way that we view others, the way that we think that others view us is part of the way that we view ourselves.

Thoughts are very powerful. When we view things as being negative or bad for us, we reinforce that perception.

Placebos are very powerful in demonstrating the ability that our minds have to alter the physical world around and within ourselves, or at least our perceptions of such.

When we look at our “problems” it is helpful to put some context to them.

In the work that I do, I come into contact with people from all over the world. Here in America we have a great sense of entitlement or detachment from what is a struggle for much of the worlds population.

For the most part here in the good old US of A, we look at our nation as being the best in the world. Nearly all of us have a roof over our heads, some of us even have land, acres even! In addition to that we almost all have electricity, clean running water and sewers that work. Then there are the cars, not just one per a household, some have several and the boats, the RV’s the motorcycles and whatever else you have for recreational gear.

Now the majority of us here have friends and family who live nearby and are glad to lend a hand in difficult times. No one checks to make sure that you are not from another race or tribe, you are able to travel freely about the country without too many worries. The police for the most part do their best to protect us and to uphold the laws – which we took a part in forming through our legal system which though far from perfect, sure beats the heck out of a lot of other places.

All in all we have it good here, there are drive through fast food outlets and a ridiculous number of services which deliver to your door most anything you can ever imagine wanting.

We take for granted all of these things … when in many parts of the world, such things are simply dreams at this point.

The other day I was providing a reading for someone in Eastern Europe, when I suggested checking the local shelters and seeing if they would be of help with regard to a particular situation, the client told me that such things did not yet exist in their country.

Can you imagine the United States with not a single animal shelter let alone laws against animal cruelty? In many parts of the world that they have no animal rights and or services …

As long as we can avoid compromising our dreams and just settling in order to feel like we got something, things will continue to happen to make a difference towards making our dreams a reality.

Remember that your problems are only as big as the perspective which you place them in.

All in all we have it pretty good here in America, we just need to shift our priorities away from material wealth and instead focus on enriching the human experience on a global level. The happier and better off our neighbors (on a global and local level) are, the happier our planet is.

May all your dreams come true,

-Charles

There is a lot of information out there on how to meditate. Some of it accurate and some of it designed to sell you books, CD’s and workshops. As a psychic medium and animal communicator who never embraced meditation on a formal level, either prior to recognizing and developing my abilities as a medium or after coming in to my work as a psychic, I have a vastly different viewpoint than many people on the subject of meditation.

Just as with any practice, there are varied directions that you can go in. Either you can utilize meditation for relaxation or you can use it to increase your abilities to communicate with spirit and or animals.

When seeking relaxation, most traditional meditation techniques will be adequate. By looking at each piece of information in or mind, identifying it, acknowledging it and discarding it, we are able to achieve a greater state of relaxation. The problem with this technique, is that any communications coming in by way of telepathic means (which is how most spirit communication and animal communication takes place) will be discarded through this process.

When seeking to establish communication with spirits and animals the process is different. While it is important to have a relatively calm mind, there is no benefit to tossing out all the material in your mind, as you will be removing all of the incoming messages that you are looking to connect with.

The first thing to do, is to understand how the process works. Essentially our minds are like a powerful laptop computer that is on a wifi connection. The laptop in this analogy is much like the mind in that it can display content from a variety of sources, a DVD, a computer disc, a webcam, a camcorder, streaming content over the internet, images and information from your hard drive and much more.

Just as the computer uses binary code as it’s operating language, the same is true of the mind. At it’s base, all communication, nay all functions of the computer are built upon binary code, I see the mind as being no different. This binary code, a series of ones and zeros, can be utilized to create content that is rich in color, movement and sound – quite remarkable when you think about it, and all without being connected to the source of the content as when pulling in information over a wifi connection.

Back to the meditation – so the goal is to go into the computer known as the mind and to parse out or differentiate the sources of the information contained within it and to determine their source.

First you have to identify a piece of information.

For example, you “see” a train in your mind.

Now you need to know the following:

Is the type of train important?

What kind of train is it?

Is it about this specific train, or about trains in general?

Is the reference tied to an event that is related in some way to a train?

For example, recently I had a dog who showed me a train. It seemed to be a bit of an older passenger train that had been kept up and was still in use, but not Amtrak. I asked my client if there would be a reason to see an image of a train coming from her dog. She said “no” that her dog had not traveled by train. I again had to ask about the train reference and she said that she thought that perhaps it was related to a conversation that took place among dinner guests at her house the night before. They had been discussing the wine train that tours the vineyards in Napa or Sonoma Valley and asked why her dog brought it up. Her dog went on to discuss the dinner guests involved in the conversation and related her personal feelings regarding them and the way they treated her.

The dogs information was in no way tied to a train, she did however use the train reference as a marker as to a certain time and place when a conversation had occurred  regarding a certain train and of course what she wanted to talk about was the parties involved in the “train” conversation.

Of course much of the information in your mind is self generated, so it is important to quite your own thoughts and to quickly look at and acknowledge information generated by yourself so as to clear up the ability to see the “other” information coming in. It’s much like cleaning up a cluttered desk, if individual notes, projects and such are allowed to clutter up the work surface, it is hard to see any new messages that may be dropped by your desk, with all the clutter, they get lost in the shuffle and become part of the background noise, no different then your own self generated clutter. However with a clean workspace, you can clearly see any new pieces of information that are dropped on your desk, they stand out as much as a large black mark on a white board.

As you clear your mind of your own clutter, separate those thoughts that do not seem to come from you and set them to the side to be reviewed in depth. To determine if something came from your own thought processes, ask yourself this simple question. Did this piece of information originate from me? Did I generate this thought and or image? You should feel a bit of an energy burst, a mild adrenaline shock or static electrical discharge for your “yes” responses, and a “flatline” for a “no” response. I suggest asking the question three times, once you get a reply, ask the opposite, checking to make sure you do not get the same reply and then return to your original question and if you still get the same response, you know that you are receiving information accurately.

Once you have identified information in your mind that did not seem to originate from you, it’s time to review who they are coming from. Common sources would be family on the other side, (including animals) living animals, passed friends, spirit guides, individuals associated with recent or lifelong hobbies and or interests and much more. Determining as to if the person is male or female and as to if they are someone you know on a personal level are very helpful in identifying who is trying to communicate with you. As this posting is about meditation, further discussion in this area will take place at another time.

The key to meditation is intent, intent, intent.

If we wish to connect with a loved one in spirit and put forth the effort to do so in our mind, simply by asking them to connect with us and send us a sign that they are there, we should go into what I consider a relaxed, yet alert state. Once clearing the clutter of the mind, and checking to see if we had any unread messages hanging out in our mind, it is time to send out the request for contact, followed by sitting back and waiting for a response.

Just like when working with walkie-talkies, you must take your finger off of the send button in order to receive. The same is true of communicating on a telepathic level, you must stop sending … in order to receive.

After a few seconds, or even immediately and in rare cases after some time, you should “see” something “pop up” in your mind. Perhaps the information coming in is a reference to the person you wish to connect with, perhaps the information is related to the answer to the question you wished to ask a loved one in spirit. In very rare instances, those we wish to connect with, will not be available. When a spirit is not available, it usually does not mean that they are upset with you, they may simply be unavailable at the time.

One does not have to close their eyes to meditate, you can meditate even while driving. The next time while driving alone on a familiar stretch of fairly simple to negotiate roadway, turn off the stereo, put down your cellphone and instead ask to connect with a loved one in spirit.

I have never gotten “serious” about meditation and yet I communicate with the spirits of loved ones both here and on the other side day in and day out on a professional basis. It was not until I had begun providing readings to the general public that I began to take a few minutes for myself each day or so to sit quietly and check the “voicemail” within my mind. I still do not meditate in the “traditional” sense, and as long as what I do now fills me up with a sense of purpose, a calm energy, and a composed mind, I see no reason to begin monitoring my breathing by counting my inhalations and exhalations as is done with some meditative practices. I meditate to connect with my higher self, those in spirit and those from the animal kingdom. While meditation for relaxation is wonderful, it simply is not what this article is about and should it be something you desire to learn and or practice, I do encourage you to pursue it.

For the past two months I have been busy settling my family into our new home here in Amador county. We are in the middle of the Motherlode, gold is everywhere around us. After panning some mole hills on the property and finding a tiny bit of dust, I drove eight minutes down the road and panned some nice flakes out of a near by river.

The last seven years we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. Benicia was our home and we had a lovely little condo with a gorgeous view of the water and the hills. After having our second daughter, the place became a little small for us and after headlining a fundraiser for Rehorse Rescue Ranch in Jamestown, we decided to move out to the foothills and to trade our urban digs for a more relaxed mountain lifestyle.

With our elevation being 3100 feet, we can expect a white Christmas just about every year. We found a place about 30 minutes up Hwy 88 from Jackson, on the way to South Tahoe. We have just over a half acre of terraced raised garden beds, a large rose garden and nearly fifty fruit trees. The persimmons are just finishing up, and the figs were incredible. Other fruit trees we have include; apple, pear, cherry, plum, peach, nectarine, white nectarine, and crabapple. Last but not least, we have eight grape vines.

We no longer have gangs in the area, unless you count the kind that run around on hooves. We have a family of about eleven deer that frequent our neighborhood and until recently used to make our yard their home. Mountain lions can be found in the area and there is a family of about nine turkeys that make our area home. A large covey of quail live here, about twenty-five of them and many other species of bird can be found in the region.

Essentially we have a little slice of paradise here up in the mountains and the quality of the home life is coming through in my readings. I am more relaxed, happier and eagerly look forward to each day. We have enough room here that in the future I will be hosting group readings, workshops and other events at our home.

The vast majority of my work is on the phone, and my clients are from all over the world. Recently I was asked if I am still making personal appearances in the Bay Area, the answer is yes, just not as often as in the past. I will continue to travel as before, where I was hosting Humane Society fundraisers and more, just expect me to travel a bit less during the winters.

Speaking of winter, this holiday season, consider giving a reading as a gift to a loved one. I will include a gift certificate via email that you can then send to the recipient via email or you can print it out and mail it. Gift certificates for a half hour reading or an hour reading are available. Simply email or call me (925-360-7469) in order to purchase one. They can be redeemed at anytime and do not expire. Gift the gift of insight and communication with your loved ones, both animal and human, living or past this holiday season.

Since moving here, our family has grown. We adopted a cat, Sophie, and a kitten, Annie Mittens, and a wonderful red heeler (cattle dog) named Peaches. We also have a rabbit, Benjamin Coco Wilson and a hamster named Tapioca.

Psychic Medium and Animal Communicator, Charles PedenAs this is my own blog, I have no problem with partaking in a bit of shameless self promotion. While putting together the above poster, it dawned on me that animal communication has really gone mainstream. It boggles my mind to think that just four short years ago I had never even heard of an animal communicator – pet psychic. Granted I had heard of psychics, I just was a skeptic.

Of course while as a young child I had experiences that were hard to explain. There was the time that I saw our deceased cat playing in the garden while at the kitchen sink washing dishes with my mother. I pointed out our cat playing up on the hillside and was promptly reminded that she had passed the year before. That was confusing … as was seeing the ghost of a fur trader creeping around our house. My brother and I saw him, he was dressed in buckskins with a Bowie knife in his right hand and a long rifle over his back. My understanding was that he had died after being ambushed by the local tribes who were unhappy with his intrusion onto their hunting grounds.

My memories from the early years were quickly suppressed as my childhood became nothing more than a memory. As a young adult I really do not recall any unusual experiences. On January, 24th 2006 I had a ghost appear in my home and that opened up the next chapter of my life. In many ways my unfolding was like going from zero to sixty in four seconds flat, quite the ride! Even then it was another seven months before I realized that I could communicate with live animals.

These days, I find myself counseling animals and their people on a near daily basis. One recent week began with me communicating with a dog in New Delhi, India (on the phone with his person) and later that day connecting with a rabbit in New Jersey, (on the phone as well.) Later that week I saw over twenty dogs in person.

On the 27th of June I was the featured Pet Psychic at “Mind Over Mutts” an event at Jack London Square in Oakland that is put on in partnership with the Eastbay SPCA. I had a great time chatting it up with the dogs and their people. A short 10-15 minute reading was $20 with all proceeds being donated to the Eastbay SPCA. The Port of Oakland, (Jack London Square) covered my stipend for the event and I was able to donate $260 to help out the animals in Alameda county.

Some of my favorite conversations involved a dog that ratted out his persons love of betting at the track. I was sitting with a woman and her dog, I asked the dog to provide me with something that would confirm a connection with him. And all of a sudden I was seeing images of the horse track. I asked if he had been taken to the races or to the track and the lady then called out to her husband who was a short distance away, but not seated with us. He got a somewhat worried look on his face, one wonders what other secrets he had. He then confirmed that he went to the track regularly, but had never taken the dog. The dog knew about it and let the wife know about how often he likes to go … too funny.

Another humorous incident was a woman who had brought her twelve year old son and dog to see me. After chatting a little bit with the dog, she asked me if the dog knew what her son did all day … instead of playing with the dog. I asked the dog and he told me the kid played video games. She asked if the dog could tell me what game the kid plays the most. I looked at the kid who was dressed in “skater” like clothes and then said to them both, “a fighting game, called “Call of Duty.” You should have seen their jaws drop, great stuff! I will bet you that kid will never be the same again – in a good way. While it is true that I also communicate with the spirits of the deceased on a daily basis as well, I have found that communication with animals helps to “break the ice” so to speak. When I go out in public, it is not uncommon for me to see the spirits of your loved ones beside you. It is however “unnerving” for someone such as myself to approach you in public and announce that your beloved husband is still with you in spirit. It is far easier for me to simply approach your dog and ask him a question that only he can answer.

Frequently animals will come up to me in public as they recognize my ability to communicate with them. The information that will come through will be very detailed. One of the first things that animals will tell me is their age, not from birth, but from conception. Frequently past animals will make an appearance. Often times animals wish to pass on a message to their person, such as thanking them for something that they did for their animal or simply letting them know how much they love them. Sometimes health concerns will be brought up and the animal may have some insights into how to care for their problems. It is of course important to note that I am not a vet and that I am simply able to relay to you additional insights and information. It is your obligation to consult with a trained animal care specialist regarding any information brought forward during a consultation.

Working with animals is very rewarding. As with any form of communication, it is a “two way street” and if an animal does not wish to communicate there is little I can do. I will from time to time employ the “burning ears” technique, in order to encourage an animal to communicate. This technique can be very effective when an impasse has been met. For example consider the case illustrated below.

While visiting Topanga I was on a trail ride where I bumped into one of the neighbors of the person whose ranch I was staying at. This person (we’ll call her Susan) had a beautiful horse who we will refer to as “Daisy.” Susan told me that Daisy had thrown her three times recently and that she really needed some help. I told her that after we had returned to the ranch from our ride and had dinner, that I would drive over and work with her and Daisy.

Later that evening I came over to work with Daisy and Susan. I noticed Susan’s jean jacket was on the ground in the middle of the corral. Daisy had taken it off of the fence and dropped it in the dirt. I asked Daisy for a show of good will, I asked her to retrieve Susan’s jacket. Daisy walked over to the jacket, put her nose down (within two inches) of it and then she jerked her head up, turned around and commenced to pee right near it.

The horse had made it clear that she was “pissed off” now what? I then turned to Susan and asked her to explain her side of the story. Usually I will have the animal communicate with me first, however in this case the horse was quite upset and was not talking. The whole reason I had come over was because Daisy had thrown her rider three times and if that was the case, it was very dangerous and had to be addressed right away.

With Daisy not talking I turned to Susan and listened as she began to describe how she had come to acquire Daisy. It turned out that Daisy was her first horse and that she had been auctioned off at a foreclosure auction. Daisy was pregnant when Susan had purchased her. The foal had recently been weaned and that had driven a bit of a wedge between Susan and Daisy. In addition to that, Susan was lacking confidence in what she was doing and that worried Daisy.

It only got worse when Susan told me how she had been thrown. It had been a very cold morning and been determined to go for a ride, Susan had put on a snowsuit over her regular riding clothes. She was as ungainly as the Michelin Man and she slipped off the stump that she was balancing on to get in the saddle. After nearly getting in the saddle she had slipped right off. Finally she made it into the saddle and Daisy simply sat her back legs down and raised her shoulders, shrugging off Susan in the process. Not much of a throwing.

Daisy had been insulted that Susan had gone around telling people that she had been thrown. It only got worse when similar events took place and now Susan was telling everyone how dangerous Daisy was and how she had been thrown three times. The truth of the matter was that Susan was in over her head, needed some professional instruction in riding and in care for a mare and her new foal. She simply lacked confidence and knowledge, which resulted in a nervous and unhappy horse. The horse had made a judgment call and simply decided that Susan was not fit to ride her. A little bit of communication with our animals can go a long ways towards bringing peace to the ranch and or home.

Back to the shameless self promotion.

Movie Poster for the Lovely Bones

Poster for th Lovely Bones

Four years ago I read “the Lovely Bones” and found that while the book had some serious issues regarding the actual way things are once you die, (from my experience) that overall it was a good read. So … it was with much anticipation that I waited to see the movie once I heard a film was going to be created based upon the book. Soon after the movie came out I tried to see it in the theater, but for one reason or another it never happened. Recently I finally got a chance to see the movie and no disrespect to the actors, but it was not that great.

First of all there is the issue with taking a book that deals with sensitive subject material regarding a juvenile who is abducted, raped and murdered. That alone does not translate well from book to screen, it’s easier to read about than to watch … like a fly on the wall. Granted the film skips over the sexual assault, but still it’s uncomfortable to watch the killer going about planning to abduct the girl and then following through on it.

The elements of the story which I enjoyed, the transparency of our lives to the dead … the fact that there is an afterlife, the fact that some here can see the dead and communicate with them is still there, however I feel too much time was spent on emphasizing something that I do not believe exists the way as portrayed in the movie. When someone is “in-between” worlds, it does not appear as a gazebo in the middle of the cornfield that you may have been murdered in or as an odd place with a lighthouse. Instead, the world appears as it is, except there is little ability to interact with it, at least in the fashion that one was accustomed to.

Some of the story was edited and integral parts of the tale were left out, making the story less compelling. The relationship that the girls mother has with the detective who is working her case is skipped over as are a few additional components of the story.

I hesitate to recommend this movie though I do suggest the book. I thought that while the characters in the film were played well by the actors involved, the subject material does not make a good transition to the screen. So in closing, skip the movie and enjoy the book and remember that it is a work of fiction with just enough genuine elements of the interactions between the departed and those present to make it interesting and compelling. Heaven is of course nothing like what is portrayed in either the book or the film.
