Long Island Medium Theresa

Long Island Medium Theresa

The other night I was watching TV and was “aimlessly” flipping channels looking for something decent to watch. Frankly I as a psychic medium and animal communicator find that many of the shows about the “paranormal” are all about the “fear” factor and or are hopelessly lost and are a pain to watch. “Psychic Kids” on A&E has it’s moments but it too seems to focus on the darker aspects of the other side, ghosts and so forth.

With regard to my work, I spend a lot of time chatting with animals telepathically for their human companions (owners). Most of what I deal with is fairly entertaining and a lot of fun. On occasion I will become involved in a readings that are much heavier in nature, such as today when I channeled a girl who had been murdered by her mother. I take my work very seriously and greatly enjoy being able to bring peace and closure to those whom I read for, so seeing TLC’s new show “Long Island Medium” on the air was a “breath of fresh air.”

I caught the last three quarters of the show and while at first I had my BS meter on high alert, I was very pleasantly surprised to see and feel that Theresa is indeed the genuine article, a real medium and a terrific psychic.

One of the things I dislike about the “psychic industry” is this perception that a psychic is either a gypsy like character or all “new age’y woo woo” complete with general feel good platitudes and readings that either must be done with “props” or that involve really far out and esoteric concepts and material which frankly makes to real sense and seems to apply to just about anyone, if it applies at all.

Myself, I am a regular guy, I do not try to be someone who is perfect, I do not consider myself superior to others. I just happen to be an individual who talks to animals and the dead telepathically, other then that I am perfectly normal. I enjoy spending time with my wife and family, playing with our dog and our other animals, cooking, tending to the gardens and the orchard, kayaking, beach combing, movies, good TV shows, video games and drawing.

In short I don’t fit the classic view of a psychic and neither does Theresa which I find very refreshing. She has a big personality, a caring spirit and an “off the cuff” delivery and approach. No sugar coated feel good-isms, rather a sometimes blunt, to the point and confident approach. She deals directly with the spirits of those both earthbound, (ghosts) and those on the “other side” and has the ability to “see” them.

Long Island Medium is the only show on at present that I feel does a halfway decent job of portraying what it is that I do. The “ghost busting” shows and the other shows out there instead spend inordinate amounts of time studying grainy video and film clips, poking around in the dark, playing with their “gear” and mixing it up with each other all in an attempt to entertain us and to ultimately prove that their is another dimension out there and that ghosts are real.

Well some of us due to personal experiences or due to our open minds already believe that such contact is possible and that we are way past trying to prove it exists. It is time to stop trying to prove that the supernatural exists, rather it is time to communicate and work directly with those in spirit, with individuals such as Theresa and others blazing a trail for the rest of us to follow.

At one point during the premier episode, a person who was at a group reading at a loved one come through whom had died a violent tragic death. When the spirit of that individual came through to Theresa, they were holding a pair of doves in their hands. Theresa then explained that she had different “symbols” that she utilized to aid communicating specific things.

After hearing Theresa explain how the pair of doves thing worked, I thought to myself that I would like to use the same technique with regard to the spirits that I communicate with. The very next day I had a woman come through who had been murdered. When she appeared to me, she was holding a pair of doves, with no prior information being providing to me regarding her passing and no obvious reason to suspect murder … I saw the symbol and remarked to my client that I was seeing the symbol for a tragic and violent passing, she immediately confirm that the individual who she was looking to connect with was stabbed to death. I was spared from experiencing such a horrific passing and the spirit was able to avoid having to relive the ugly details of their passing.

Long Island Medium was picked up for 8 1/2 hour episodes. Lets hope that it becomes a hit and gets picked up for several seasons. It is the real thing and is at present the only show on TV that I can point out to someone and say, “This is similar to what I do.” and feel good about it. I give it 4.75 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it, while not required viewing, highly advised.

After reading some of the comments my posting has generated I have decided to respond to the critics of the show, specifically those who believe it is fake and a set up.

As a psychic medium myself I can attest to the way that she delivers her information as being genuine. While watching the show I too feel the connections with the spirits that she connects with, just last night while watching two episodes I repeatedly broke out in goosebumps when she was connecting with spirits.

To the skeptics who think that all of the people featured on the show are “paid” to go along with some grand scheme to produce a fake show, I can assure you that they are not actors nor coached in anyway. Tell me how she knew about the gentleman at the auto mechanics and how his father was deceased and his mother was still living along with other details. How about the two tough guys who came to get closure regarding their friend who had died? You think she faked that too?? Do you think these people would really go on national TV and risk their reputations just for a quick sound bite, I do not think so. Let me tell you, it is all genuine – this is a very similar portrayal of what my life is like.

Now, I will cut the skeptics some slack … as prior to having my own experiences and discovering my own abilities as a psychic medium and animal communicator – I too was a complete skeptic. However if you have an open mind and watch the show you will see that what she does changes lives for the better and that she brings peace and closure to those whom she reads for, just as I do.

I love the way that she reads people “off the cuff” while out in public, running errands and so forth. I too have those experiences. Once while walking through a farmers market I came over to the gentleman who was advertising that he could help you stop smoking through hypnosis. Being the consummate skeptic that I am, I had to see how he did it and if he could do other things. While chatting with him I felt my liver being removed and or operated on. I asked him if he knew a female who had passed with liver issues. He then told me that he was the recipient of an organ donor who was female – he had her liver. She was coming through in spirit to thank him for honoring the pact he had made with his doctor to change his lifestyle and to take good care of his new liver. She appreciated how he was caring for her liver – afterwards the gentleman was a bit in shock and had to take some time away from his booth to compose himself. I have been in checkout lines at the grocery store and while my purchases are being rung up have commented on the fact that the checkers deceased boyfriend is standing beside her with a message for her. These are not things you just make up! I find that if I do not bring forward their messages, that the spirits will pester me until I do so. I have an obligation to honor both those here in person as well as those in spirit, I live my life with one foot in this world and the other on the other side – as does Theresa. Every medium has their own style, and yes there are many frauds out there, but she is not one of them, she is the real deal.

Recently while working with a particularly difficult animal, it became apparent to me that my client had perhaps an unrealistic expectation when it came to what an animal communicator can and cannot do. This posting will address what you can expect and what you should not expect from a professional pet psychic, (animal communicator.)

Animal communicators are not a cure all, just as a therapist or counselor can communicate with the person having problems – it is dependent upon the party who needs help, accepting the help and communicating themselves. Just because we can talk with our children does not mean that they mind us, the same is true of our animal companions.

Most offending behaviors that animals display can be lumped into one of two categories. The first, acting out due to anger or frustration about their needs not being met. Secondly, a health problem that has not been properly identified and addressed. Sure, there are other reasons to act out, jealously, past trauma, a tension filled environment and other possible triggers, however the majority of “bad” behaviors often are triggered by the first two causes that were mentioned.

Let’s address the first one, your animals needs are not being met. Causes can include such issues as the following:

  1. Lack of stimulation, such as play time and outside time.
  2. A shortage of access to clean food and water.
  3. Improper grooming and or filthy living quarters.
  4. Too hot or too cold of an environment.
  5. Overloaded litter boxes.
  6. Strong smells in their environment.
  7. The introduction of additional animals and or family members which upset the balance of attention in the home.

Most of the above mentioned issues are fairly obvious and easy to rectify, however with the busy lives that us humans lead, sometimes our animal companions are accidently neglected. When an animal has a problem such as described above, they are limited in what they can do to get our attention. Frequently when an animal is upset, they will exhibit a “bad” behavior, such as tearing up furniture, urinating and defecating in unacceptable locations, barking uncontrollably or worse, becoming aggressive. Unfortunately us humans frequently address the problem behavior, without understanding the cause. When this approach is employed it only causes more frustration and potential anger and frustration in the animal, leading to the situation becoming worse.

The second major issue, undiagnosed health issues also can become a battle within the home. Consider the following issues and how difficult they may be for the animal to relay to us.

  1. Loss of hearing and or loss of sight.
  2. Toothache, difficulty eating and or loss of weight along with a irritable disposition.
  3. Muscle and or tendon damage, such as sprains, pulls and tears.
  4. Stomach ulcers, various cancers and other chronic conditions.
  5. Urinary infections, bladder stones, and such.
  6. Arthritis, and joint pain.
  7. Skin irritations.
  8. Allergies and food sensitivities.
  9. Mental issues, (dementia, chemical imbalances etc.)

With the above issues and many not listed, it may or may not be obvious to us as to what the problem is. In the case of a urinary infection, the animal may begin urinating outside of the litter box which could also indicate that the animal is upset with us over a need not being met. In the case of a urinary infection, we are lucky in that it is easy to diagnose by either ourselves or with a quick trip to the vet, and treatment is fairly straightforward. With such an issue as stomach ulcers, various cancers, as well as muscular and or neurological conditions, and so forth, diagnoses may be a bit more problematic. This is when a battery of tests is often embarked upon, frequently with each test costing more than the last one and all in an effort to pinpoint the cause of the problems being exhibited, by the process of elimination.

If your animal has a condition that is difficult to identify and is causing either you or the animal great difficulties either mentally or physically, and you are going through test after test or being presented a whole litany of tests and paths to follow by your animals medical care provider, a reputable animal communicator may be very beneficial in that they can help to pinpoint what tests should be performed. That being said, I would like to point out several things with regard to animal communicators, but first I would like to provide a definition of what an animal communicator or pet psychic is, as some of them call themselves.

Essentially an animal communicator is one who claims the following:

  1. That they have the ability to communicate with your animals.
  2. That the communication will be received via telepathy and that the animal need not be present.
  3. That this communication will be very detailed and include specific details that only you and your animal would know.
  4. That the communication can take place over any distance.
  5. That the communication with your animal is not dependent upon them being living, in that they can speak with those who have passed, as well as the living.

As a former skeptic of such abilities, I will outline how one can easily provide a convincing reading that is completely fraudulent with only a few pieces of information to go on.

  • Too often I am asked if I need to see a photograph of the animal that they wish to communicate with. If you claim to be able to communicate with the animal telepathically, why do you need a picture?
  • With a photograph the “animal communicator” now knows the physical appearance of the animal and clues to their age. Perhaps there is additional information about you and or the animal contained within the photo, such as a gathering with family or your animal’s sleeping quarters, toys etc.
  • Many “pet psychics” request the age of your animal and perhaps even their birthdate.
  • With knowledge of the breed, it is pretty easy to simply provide details that are consistent with qualities and or issues associated with that particular type of animal. Of course, once again, if you can talk telepathically with animals, why do you need to ask the animals age, when they can simply tell you how old they are.
  • Some “animal communicators” will even ask for details regarding the animal and it’s health. Once again, why provide details, when this person claims to communicate with animals, many are well intentioned, yet are hacks at it.
  • Simply being able to recognize or hear a language does not make us literate and or fluent in it.

With one possessing the name, age, physical description and or breed, perhaps even details regarding medical history and often times much more, it is easy to reinforce some common issues with the particular breed and situation as well as providing flattery regarding you and your animal – after all who would not want to hear pleasing platitudes regarding their animal, provided that it is the truth of course. How does one know if what the animal communicator is saying is genuine? After all with the wealth of information you provided, “in order to establish a connection” as so many animal communicators/pet psychics claim, how does one know what to believe and what not to believe?

I suggest applying the following to your search for a reputable animal communicator/pet psychic:

  • Do not provide details regarding your animal/s and or situation in your initial contact with a prospective animal communicator. Instead one should simply state their purpose for contact, such as wishing to contact a living animal and one that has passed as well. Please don’t include their breeds, ages, pictures or anything else in your email or phone call.
  • Once you have an appointment set up, resist the urge to send pictures to the animal communicator – we all love our fur babies, but the photos are not needed and can only hurt the opportunity to receive a quality reading. Also hold back on providing back story, or anything else for that matter. Instead you should sit down and write down the names of those you wish to contact, living and or deceased and then write down your questions for them. The further in advance that you do this, the easier the reading is. Writing down your questions in advance provides the animals an opportunity to formulate well thought out responses to your questions.

What to expect during a reading:

  1. At the start of the reading, do not volunteer information, simply state your primary objective and the name and species of the animal you wish to connect with. While the name is required, the species is not – it simply makes it much easier for the animal communicator to establish a connection as quickly as possible.
  2. Within a very short period of time, usually seconds, a description should begin coming through. Details to expect would be among the following:
  3. Physical appearance, such as  size, coloring, type of coat and in some cases the name of the breed.
  4. Frequently unusual markings, scars, past injuries, if passed – the way they passed, or what claimed their life will come through.
  5. Favorite toys, games, foods, treats, activities, memories and more will very often come through.
  6. Your animals age, (bearing in mind that the gestation period counts towards overall age) perhaps even specific ages or dates in respect to you and your relationship with the animal, such as how long they have lived with you.
  7. Bear in mind that not all animals communicate the same, just as not all humans have the ability to sing well.
  8. With a good connection, the communication should be very “conversational” and not in the least bit cryptic.
  9. If your animal has passed, it is very common for something that has happened recently to you since their passing being brought up, frequently even details from earlier during the day you receive the reading will be brought forth.
  10. Occasionally details that you are unable to confirm right away will come through, simply make a note of them and later they will either come to pass or make sense to you.

Additional details to consider regarding the relationship between your animal, yourself and the animal communicator:

  • The animal knows what their person is doing – your animals are dialed into you nearly 24/7 on a telepathic level. This applies to those in spirit as well.
  • If an animal’s person has contacted an animal communicator, trust me – the animal is all ears. Your animal companions are listening, responding to your inquires and or comments is up to them.
  • So much of telepathic communication is dependent upon what the intent is, so when the animal and the pet psychic look to connect the connection is usually secured within seconds. This takes place with the animal in the same room as the animal communicator, or over vast distances such as thousands of miles away.
  • The animal does not need to be present with their person.
  • The animal must be awake, if the animal has passed, they no longer sleep and therefore we do not have to worry about if they are awake or not.

Is it possible that there will be times when your animal will not communicate?

The answer is a simple yes, for many reasons they may not respond, including but not limited to the following:

  1. If the relationship between the two of you was not very good, they may hold a grudge and not respond – though they can still hear you.
  2. If the animal is asleep they will usually not connect.
  3. When distracted by a demanding environment, such as outrunning a predator, it is possible that they will be too busy to connect.
  4. Animals, like us tend to focus on what is physically in front of them and when in unfamiliar environments they tend to be distracted easily.
  5. Animals that have passed tend to be very easy to connect with, and frequently their communication is improved upon their passing (in several instances where I have communicated with the animal well before passing and some time after passing.) The exception occasionally seems to be roughly a two week window following their passing, free of their physical restrictions and able to reunite with loved ones in spirit, they may take off for a while. Also on occasion they are still “getting their bearings” and after a few days or so will be in a much better position to communicate.

Most of the time your animal will communicate readily, in detail with a reputable animal communicator. There are of course exceptions to the rule, and hopefully there is now a greater understanding of what to expect and what not to expect when consulting an animal communicator/pet psychic.

A few additional words of wisdom:

  • Obsessive compulsive behaviors are difficult to correct and while an animal communicator may help, there certainly is no guarantee. On the other hand if you need to check in with your animal and find out how they feel about your bringing another animal into the home or end of life questions and such, an good animal communicator is nearly guaranteed to bring forward meaningful answers.
  • In my experience the best animal communicators/pet psychics do not avoid missing and or lost animal cases and will readily take them on.
  • During the first part of the reading you should ask “control” questions. These are questions that are designed to confirm a connection to the animal that you wish to connect with. Early on it is best to ask questions of a simply yes or no nature in their reply. This is very important when doing a reading in person and the animal is either present, or a photograph and or description has already been provided. Remember, the best pet psychics do not require a photograph in order to secure a telepathic connection with your animal.
  • The more time that is spent with the animal, frequently the better the communication becomes and often times you will find that absolutely any questions are fair game, regardless of the type of response required.
  • Never consult with an animal communicator or pet psychic who does not offer refunds for a failure to connect and bear in mind that more expensive, does not always mean better.
  • Most importantly remember that a reputable animal communicator  is relay messages from your animals to you.
  • Your animal communicator most likely is not a trained behaviorist, doctor, trainer or vet. An animal communicator is simply a translator and advisor, by utilizing their gifts you can experience a stronger bond, connection and a deeper level of understanding and respect.
  • If for some reason your animal points you in the wrong direction or simply says something to get you off their back, remember that they most likely learned such behaviors from you. One unusual phenomena that occurs in a few older female dogs that have older women for their caretakers is that frequently the dogs will fudge on their age by a few years, kind of like you saying that you are still celebrating your 39th birthday, for the 5th time.

Psychic Medium and Animal Communicator, Charles PedenAs this is my own blog, I have no problem with partaking in a bit of shameless self promotion. While putting together the above poster, it dawned on me that animal communication has really gone mainstream. It boggles my mind to think that just four short years ago I had never even heard of an animal communicator – pet psychic. Granted I had heard of psychics, I just was a skeptic.

Of course while as a young child I had experiences that were hard to explain. There was the time that I saw our deceased cat playing in the garden while at the kitchen sink washing dishes with my mother. I pointed out our cat playing up on the hillside and was promptly reminded that she had passed the year before. That was confusing … as was seeing the ghost of a fur trader creeping around our house. My brother and I saw him, he was dressed in buckskins with a Bowie knife in his right hand and a long rifle over his back. My understanding was that he had died after being ambushed by the local tribes who were unhappy with his intrusion onto their hunting grounds.

My memories from the early years were quickly suppressed as my childhood became nothing more than a memory. As a young adult I really do not recall any unusual experiences. On January, 24th 2006 I had a ghost appear in my home and that opened up the next chapter of my life. In many ways my unfolding was like going from zero to sixty in four seconds flat, quite the ride! Even then it was another seven months before I realized that I could communicate with live animals.

These days, I find myself counseling animals and their people on a near daily basis. One recent week began with me communicating with a dog in New Delhi, India (on the phone with his person) and later that day connecting with a rabbit in New Jersey, (on the phone as well.) Later that week I saw over twenty dogs in person.

On the 27th of June I was the featured Pet Psychic at “Mind Over Mutts” an event at Jack London Square in Oakland that is put on in partnership with the Eastbay SPCA. I had a great time chatting it up with the dogs and their people. A short 10-15 minute reading was $20 with all proceeds being donated to the Eastbay SPCA. The Port of Oakland, (Jack London Square) covered my stipend for the event and I was able to donate $260 to help out the animals in Alameda county.

Some of my favorite conversations involved a dog that ratted out his persons love of betting at the track. I was sitting with a woman and her dog, I asked the dog to provide me with something that would confirm a connection with him. And all of a sudden I was seeing images of the horse track. I asked if he had been taken to the races or to the track and the lady then called out to her husband who was a short distance away, but not seated with us. He got a somewhat worried look on his face, one wonders what other secrets he had. He then confirmed that he went to the track regularly, but had never taken the dog. The dog knew about it and let the wife know about how often he likes to go … too funny.

Another humorous incident was a woman who had brought her twelve year old son and dog to see me. After chatting a little bit with the dog, she asked me if the dog knew what her son did all day … instead of playing with the dog. I asked the dog and he told me the kid played video games. She asked if the dog could tell me what game the kid plays the most. I looked at the kid who was dressed in “skater” like clothes and then said to them both, “a fighting game, called “Call of Duty.” You should have seen their jaws drop, great stuff! I will bet you that kid will never be the same again – in a good way. While it is true that I also communicate with the spirits of the deceased on a daily basis as well, I have found that communication with animals helps to “break the ice” so to speak. When I go out in public, it is not uncommon for me to see the spirits of your loved ones beside you. It is however “unnerving” for someone such as myself to approach you in public and announce that your beloved husband is still with you in spirit. It is far easier for me to simply approach your dog and ask him a question that only he can answer.

Frequently animals will come up to me in public as they recognize my ability to communicate with them. The information that will come through will be very detailed. One of the first things that animals will tell me is their age, not from birth, but from conception. Frequently past animals will make an appearance. Often times animals wish to pass on a message to their person, such as thanking them for something that they did for their animal or simply letting them know how much they love them. Sometimes health concerns will be brought up and the animal may have some insights into how to care for their problems. It is of course important to note that I am not a vet and that I am simply able to relay to you additional insights and information. It is your obligation to consult with a trained animal care specialist regarding any information brought forward during a consultation.

Working with animals is very rewarding. As with any form of communication, it is a “two way street” and if an animal does not wish to communicate there is little I can do. I will from time to time employ the “burning ears” technique, in order to encourage an animal to communicate. This technique can be very effective when an impasse has been met. For example consider the case illustrated below.

While visiting Topanga I was on a trail ride where I bumped into one of the neighbors of the person whose ranch I was staying at. This person (we’ll call her Susan) had a beautiful horse who we will refer to as “Daisy.” Susan told me that Daisy had thrown her three times recently and that she really needed some help. I told her that after we had returned to the ranch from our ride and had dinner, that I would drive over and work with her and Daisy.

Later that evening I came over to work with Daisy and Susan. I noticed Susan’s jean jacket was on the ground in the middle of the corral. Daisy had taken it off of the fence and dropped it in the dirt. I asked Daisy for a show of good will, I asked her to retrieve Susan’s jacket. Daisy walked over to the jacket, put her nose down (within two inches) of it and then she jerked her head up, turned around and commenced to pee right near it.

The horse had made it clear that she was “pissed off” now what? I then turned to Susan and asked her to explain her side of the story. Usually I will have the animal communicate with me first, however in this case the horse was quite upset and was not talking. The whole reason I had come over was because Daisy had thrown her rider three times and if that was the case, it was very dangerous and had to be addressed right away.

With Daisy not talking I turned to Susan and listened as she began to describe how she had come to acquire Daisy. It turned out that Daisy was her first horse and that she had been auctioned off at a foreclosure auction. Daisy was pregnant when Susan had purchased her. The foal had recently been weaned and that had driven a bit of a wedge between Susan and Daisy. In addition to that, Susan was lacking confidence in what she was doing and that worried Daisy.

It only got worse when Susan told me how she had been thrown. It had been a very cold morning and been determined to go for a ride, Susan had put on a snowsuit over her regular riding clothes. She was as ungainly as the Michelin Man and she slipped off the stump that she was balancing on to get in the saddle. After nearly getting in the saddle she had slipped right off. Finally she made it into the saddle and Daisy simply sat her back legs down and raised her shoulders, shrugging off Susan in the process. Not much of a throwing.

Daisy had been insulted that Susan had gone around telling people that she had been thrown. It only got worse when similar events took place and now Susan was telling everyone how dangerous Daisy was and how she had been thrown three times. The truth of the matter was that Susan was in over her head, needed some professional instruction in riding and in care for a mare and her new foal. She simply lacked confidence and knowledge, which resulted in a nervous and unhappy horse. The horse had made a judgment call and simply decided that Susan was not fit to ride her. A little bit of communication with our animals can go a long ways towards bringing peace to the ranch and or home.

Back to the shameless self promotion.

~ All Species ~ Living and Past ~ Animals Need Not be Present ~ Detailed Information ~

The night before last I sat down and with some anticipation watched a new show about “ghost hunters” on the Discovery Channel, the show is called “Ghost Lab” and appears to be very similar to several other shows on other networks, but because it was on the Discovery channel I thought that perhaps it would be a more respectful and serious approach to the subject, combined with some hard science of course. As a psychic medium myself who has encountered and worked with several ghosts, I really wanted to see what would happen and how they were going to work with the subject.

It opened up looking promising enough, they had selected an interesting location to shoot the episode I watched, Tombstone, Arizona … pretty much guaranteeing some sort of connection, plenty of violent deaths in the past – coupled with offering up the locations of shootout and graveyards as tourist attractions. First they introduced us to the team and I was a bit disappointed that they did not have even one “sensitive” or psychic with them. They have plenty of gadgetry, but nothing that I had not seen before … your standard EMF readers, infrared, camcorders, and still cameras as well as audio recorders and motion sensors. The use of the hand held camcorder footage gave the show a bit of the “Blair Witch Project” feel from time to time, with the HD cameras they were running, it was strictly for effect, for the viewer. When viewing the footage of the individual holding the camcorder I was surprised to see that the lens cap was hanging and not tucked away, straps showing up in shots has happened before where people have confused the close-up of a finger or a strap as an other worldly energy burst … etc.

After introducing the crew, and the location that they were investigating, they showed us clips from interviews with residents of the town who claimed to have witnessed paranormal events themselves, including actually seeing ghosts and more. I must say though, that if there was one place in the country where you might find people who believe in ghosts, it would be Tombstone, after all it’s probably good for business.

After sharing some ghost stories from the townspeople, the crew went about setting up for the investigation. They focused on a few locations within the town. The Bird Cage Theater was the first location and they set up all of the gear mentioned earlier. One of the things that was mentioned as possibly being a paranormal experience was an old speaker that though it had “no electricity” running to it, the woman who worked there claimed it would make noises.

During the course of the evening while investigating the room they picked up a very load static/feedback like noise coming from the speaker after they mentioned how quiet it was in there. I was a bit surprised when the employee came out from the back room, why was she permitted to “go to sleep” during the investigation … and stay on the premises, not a very thorough investigation if you want to rule out another human as being responsible for the claims of paranormal investigation.

They ended up climbing a ladder and looking at the speaker a bit closer, the whole time it’s going off, and bear in mind of course that they all have cell phones, radios and cannot determine if the speaker had power going to it or not. They did seem to pick up an EVP in the location which in my opinion sounded a heck more like “you dick” than “right quick”. After all the manner in which the crew was addressing any spirits that may be present was confrontational, rude, in your face and not too friendly.

Later while in the silver mines, some more of the rude, insensitive and at the very least illogical questions were asked prior to an attempt to capture EVPs. The crew was asking if the minors were still down there mining for silver. And the crew was shouting or raising their voices, as if that could help those who read minds “ghosts and spirits” to hear you any better. I did appreciate them commenting on how hard the miners must have worked in order to chisel out the passageways in the mines, that was nice.

During or after the silver mines visit, the sky around the town lit up with lighting as a thunder storm rolled through. This got them onto a tangent about how if you supercharged an area with electricity, it may enable the ghosts or other paranormal events to materialize much easier than in other locations where there is not such a conductive material underneath the ground, possibly holding a residual charge. Nice theory, perhaps there is something to it, but I am not convinced. Think of all the metal in buildings, pipes, buried cables and other conductive materials that exist in other towns and cities around the country and they are much larger than Tombstone, granted they may not get as much lightening, but many place I know do and as far as I know that does not increase paranormal activity.

There was this weird thing they did with a Tesla Coil, and trying to supercharge the energy in the room and they also checked out the Boot Hill Cemetery where a “famous” photo of a supposed ghost was taken several years prior. They set motion sensors up all over the cemetery and then sent the only girl on the team into the middle of the cemetery at night time to sit on a folding chair by herself and take pictures/see what she saw or felt. After a bit one of the motion sensors went off and the team started running around like crazy trying to capture whatever it was.

Later they got back to the “lab” and examined their footage, they had one photo of a “shadow person” but to me, it just looked like a shadow, however I did feel a presence and I must say that if anything they were being laughed at.

Frankly I give the show a D- for the following reasons.

They are rude and aggressive in attempts to make contact.

They are loud and unprofessional.

They do not have anyone on their team who is a sensitive or psychic, how thorough can you be if you do not use every “tool” available to you?

The way the show is edited adds more to the atmosphere, almost more than their “findings”.

This show gives a bad name to genuine paranormal researchers and is simply more entertainment that is cashing in on the popularity of all things paranormal. The only positive side that I see is that it will perhaps start a dialogue among more people, a discussion about these subjects and the nature of life and death it’s self. You got to start somewhere, sure there are some other shows similar to this, but not that I have bothered to watch with a critical eye, I only am paying more attention to this one because someone who I respect, Mike Rowe from “Dirty Jobs”, ended up narrating it, much to my now disappointment and of course because it is on a channel that tends to be more analytical and scientific minded.

PS

A quick look at the message boards for the show on the Discovery channels web site shows that I am far from being alone in my critique. This show is horrible!
